Year 11 Mock Examinations

Dear Parents and Carers,

RE: Year 11 mock examinations

We would like to remind you that Year 11 mock examinations begin on Monday 25th November and will be conducted in line with JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) guidelines. In accordance with these guidelines, students are not permitted to bring any mobile phone, electronic device, or watch into the examination room. Students will have the option of either handing their phone in, to be collected after the examination, or leave it in their bags, switched off, at their own risk. Additionally, students are required to wear full academy uniform for the duration of their examinations.

Please be aware that any student who does not adhere to these guidelines, including the wearing of jewellery that does not meet our dress code and trainers (unless medically exempt), will continue to be sanctioned as per the academy policy.

Mock examinations play a critical role in preparing students for their final assessments. In the unlikely event of a national disruption to final examinations, mock examination results may be used to inform Centre or Teacher Assessed Grades and must meet JCQ standards to qualify as evidence.

The best preparation for these exams is to fully engage in lessons; completing all study tasks diligently. Students may also wish to take the opportunity to work more independently. This fosters self-discipline and good study habits, essential for later in their school career. To support independent study, all resources including revision support material will continue to be posted in Google Classrooms.

A summary of the key dates and events can be seen below:

Monday 25th November – Friday 13th December: Main examination window

Monday 16th December – Friday 20th December: Art exams and contingency days for students who missed an examination.

Friday 17th January: Mock exams results day and report published to parents and carers. The published report will contain the mock examination grades, GCSE forecast grades and an Attitude and Engagement score. These grades will then be used for applications to Post-16 or any other destination for the Year 11 students.

We understand that this can be a stressful time for students, and we encourage them to prioritise their health and well-being. Regular sleep, a balanced diet, and time for relaxation can all support their focus and resilience during this period. For those feeling anxious, Kooth provides free, confidential online counselling and mental health support for young people. Your child can access Kooth at any time by visiting www.kooth.com to chat with qualified counsellors and access resources that may help manage examination-related stress.

Please remind your son or daughter of the importance of adhering to the JCQ guidelines and the academy uniform policy, and let them know that support is available if needed.

Thank you for your support in helping us create a fair and focused examination environment for all students.

Yours faithfully
Mr Brewer | Senior Leader of Examinations
