Dear Parents/ Carers

RE: Remembrance 2025

As an International Baccalaureate World School, Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy is deeply committed to fostering reflection, respect, and international-mindedness among our students. On Tuesday 11th November at 11am, we will hold our annual Service of Remembrance within the academy to honour and remember all those who have given their lives in conflict and war across the world.

This solemn occasion is an important part of our academy’s values and traditions. It offers our students and staff a moment to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives so that future generations may live in freedom and peace. A two-minute silence will be observed as part of our service across the academy as a mark of respect and remembrance.

The act of remembrance serves not only to honour the fallen but also to remind us of the cost of conflict and the importance of working together for understanding, compassion, and unity; values that are central to the International Baccalaureate philosophy and to our wider global community.

At this time of year, as we wear the poppy and take part in moments of reflection, we remember that freedom, peace, and democracy were hard-won by those who came before us. It is our responsibility to ensure that their legacy continues through our actions and our commitment to a more peaceful world. We ask that students bring in a cash donation (recommended minimum 50p) in exchange for a poppy to be worn on 11th November 2025.

We would warmly invite all students who are members of the Air, Sea or Land Cadets to wear their service uniform on this day.

We thank all students, staff, and families for their respect and participation in this important occasion. “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

With respect and reflection.

Yours faithfully

Mr Stephenson | Deputy Principal
