Dear Parent/Carer
Re: Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy Sports Days 2025
The PE Learning Area is once again preparing for the annual Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy Sports Days, which will take place on Monday 16th June, Tuesday 17th June, Wednesday 18th June and Monday 23rd June 2025. Students will compete in their Year Groups and Colleges and the events will take place on the sports field at Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy.
Your daughter/son’s Sports Day is as follows:
Year 9 – Monday 16th June 9.00am – 12.30pm
Year 10 – Tuesday 17th June 9.00am – 12.30pm
Year 8 – Wednesday 18th June 9.00am – 12.30pm
Year 7 – Monday 23rd June 9.00am – 12.30pm
All students need to attend their normal lessons until the time their Sports Day starts. Their period 1 teacher will then escort them down to the field. On the day of their Sports Day students will be allowed to attend school in their College PE Kit and academy tracksuit for the day. Students will not be permitted to wear any other kit or tracksuit during their Sports Day. Students should still bring their bags and lesson equipment.
All sports days will be finished before lunch time, therefore students can follow their normal lunch routine, however students must bring water and/or refreshments for the duration of their events as there will be no opportunity to visit the restaurant during their normal morning break-time. The weather forecast suggests that the days will become hot towards midday, so it is advised that students bring sun cream and plenty of water.
Parents and carers are welcome to support students during their son/daughter’s Sports Day. If you wish to do so, please enter the sports field via GOALs reception in order to sign in with a member of our SGLA
staff.
Students who finish 1st and 2nd in their field events and record one of the first two fastest times in each track event will then have the opportunity to represent their College at College Sports Day on Thursday 26th June 2025 (year 7 and 8) and Friday 4th July 2025 (year 9 and 10).
Students who finish first in any event at College Sports Day will go through to represent Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy at the Leigh Academies Trust Sports Day on either Tuesday 8th July (Years 7 and 8) or Monday 14th July (Years 9 and 10) at Dartford Harriers Athletics Club. Details for these events will follow the Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy Sports Days.
One of our main priorities of these Sports Days is for students to try their best in their selected events and most importantly have fun. In order for this to be achieved, we expect students to behave in an appropriate manner which includes supporting other athletes and remaining respectful to staff. If students fail to meet behaviour expectations they will be ‘on called’ as per our behaviour system and removed to college for the remainder of the Sports Day.
This year our Student Voice team will be selling sweets during all of the Sports Days to raise money for additional resources and equipment for our PE learning area. If you would like to buy any on the day please bring cash to school as this will be the only method of payment.
Finally, students need to be prepared for a variety of weather conditions on the day. We recommend that if rain is forecast students bring a rain jacket and if sun is forecast students apply sun cream, bring a hat and
lots of water. This year each college area will have a sheltered zone to protect from both rain and sun.
Sports Day will only be cancelled if conditions are extremely poor as there is no time left to reschedule during this Module. Please do not hesitate to contact us on 01322 620435 or email andrew.pickett@sgla.latrust.org.uk if you have any questions regarding these events.
Yours faithfully,
Andrew Pickett | Coordinator of PE
