Today, at The Leigh Academy, soon to be called Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy, we have welcomed students to receive an impressive array of record breaking GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results. The academy is absolutely delighted that the Year 11 students have achieved so highly and the results are testament to the years of hard work and commitment to their studies, despite the challenges and disruptions of recent years. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, the uptake of languages continues to be popular through GCSE French and Spanish. This enables our students to continue to benefit from an international dimension to their curriculum, with a seamless pathway from the IB Middle Years Programme in Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 4. We now anticipate a large number of students progressing into Attenborough College for post-16 study and onto the IB’s prestigious Career Programme.
83% of Leigh students achieved a 4 or above in English, with 71% achieving a grade 5 or above. The outcomes in separate science were also particularly impressive. Students’ creative flair and dedication has produced a bumper crop of grades 7 to 9 in art and photography.
Vocational subjects also continue to be exceptionally strong, highlighting our students’ consistent performance across the two years of study, with students in every BTEC achieving multiple Level 2 Distinction* grades, including in health & fitness, health and social care, engineering and performing arts – acting.
