Dear Parents/ Carers

RE: Diwali Celebration

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we are delighted to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with our students this term. This celebration forms an important part of our commitment to promoting cultural diversity, international-mindedness, and the values at the heart of the IB Learner Profile. We will be joined by our friends from Gurdwara Guru Hargobind Sahib, Dartford, where cultural music will play live in our winter gardens on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th October in the mornings. In addition, we look forward to celebrating Diwali through our assembly programme and tutor time PSHE programme.

Diwali is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in the world, observed by millions of people across different faiths, particularly within the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities. It represents the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, and it offers a valuable opportunity for our students to learn about global traditions, values, and beliefs.

Through this celebration, our students will develop an understanding of different cultural and religious practices within our global community. Reflect on the IB Learner Profile attribute of being open-minded—appreciating our own cultures and personal histories while valuing the perspectives, values, and traditions of others. Participate in activities that encourage respect, curiosity, and shared understanding among peers.

By recognising and celebrating Diwali, we aim to create a learning environment that nurtures tolerance, empathy, and global citizenship, in line with the IB’s mission to develop caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world.

We look forward to sharing this vibrant and meaningful celebration with our students and the wider school community.

Yours faithfully

Mr Stephenson | Deputy Principal
