Year 11 Letter – Maths Homework

Dear Parent/Carer

RE: Homework for Mathematics

In Year 11, it is crucial that students establish strong study habits and develop effective exam techniques to prepare them for their GCSEs in Mathematics. To support this, we are implementing the following homework expectations:

Weekly Past Paper Practice

Each Monday, students will be assigned a GCSE Maths past paper via Google Classroom.

Students should complete the paper electronically using their Chromebooks and smart pens, following the instructions given by their teacher.

Once completed, they must mark their work using the official mark scheme and clearly highlight any questions they struggled with or would like further support on.

Papers should then be submitted via Google Classroom.

These identified questions will be reviewed with teachers during the Monday after-school revision sessions, giving students targeted support where it is most needed.

This approach is vital in helping students become familiar with the mark scheme and exam structure. It will also ensure they understand how marks are awarded — and where they might lose marks even if they know the correct answer. Developing this exam technique is just as important as mastering the mathematical content itself.

Sparx Homework (30 minutes per week)

In addition to the past paper, students will also be set 30 minutes of Sparx homework each week. Sparx provides personalised practice tailored to each student’s ability, ensuring they can strengthen key skills, close knowledge gaps, and build confidence. This regular practice is essential in preparing Year 11 students for success in their final exams.

We kindly ask for your support in encouraging your child to complete these important weekly tasks, as consistent effort now will make a significant difference to their progress and outcomes in the summer.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully

Mrs E. Ramic | Director of Learning Mathematics
