Today, at Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy, we have welcomed our students to receive a strong set of GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results. We are delighted that our Year 11 students have achieved so highly and the results are testament to the years of hard work and commitment to their studies, despite the challenges and disruptions to their early stages of secondary education. Thank you too to their teachers and parents who have supported our students on their journey to success.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, the uptake of languages continues to be popular through GCSE French and Spanish. This  enables our students to continue to benefit from an international dimension to their curriculum, with a seamless pathway from the IB Middle Years Programme in Key Stage 3, through  Key Stage 4, and into Post-16 study. We now anticipate a large number of students progressing into Attenborough College for Post-16 study and onto the IB’s prestigious programmes of study, with its accompanying vocational courses.

Principal, Mrs Julia Collins stated:

“Our students have achieved excellent results through hard work and determination; the ingredients for success. These results highlight the resilience and responsibility of our young people who have overcome the significant demands over the course of their studies and shown true Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy spirit.”

76% of Sir Geoffrey Leigh students sat examinations fulfilling entry to the English Baccalaureate, which includes English, maths, science, humanities and a modern foreign language. This demonstrates the breadth and depth of the academic curriculum on offer.

79% achieved a 4 or above in English, with 70% achieving a grade 5 or above. The outcomes in biology, physics, chemistry, ethics were also particularly impressive. Students’ creative flair and dedication has produced an excellent set of grades in graphics, art and photography.

Vocational subjects also continue to be exceptionally strong, highlighting our students’ consistent performance across the two years of study, with students in BTEC qualifications achieving many Level 2 Distinction Stars, including in health & fitness, health and social care, and  engineering.
