Dear Parent/Carer
RE: SPARX Homework for Mathematics
I am writing to inform you that all students at Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy are expected to complete 100% of their mathematics homework each week on Sparx. Homework is set every Wednesday and is due the following Wednesday. Students must log in using their Google account details to access the platform.
Sparx is a personalised mathematics homework programme proven to improve student attainment. Just one hour of Sparx each week adds the equivalent of 39 hours of extra learning per year. It covers the full curriculum for ages 11–16 and provides teachers with insights into student progress. Students who complete their homework consistently achieve stronger results in their GCSE examinations.
It is important that students complete 100% of their Sparx homework, as it is fully personalised to their individual learning needs, and they must achieve full marks in order to progress to the next level. Sparx tailors questions to each student’s ability and completing the homework 100% will allow students to progress to more challenging questions, and support is available through videos and teacher guidance.
To support students to achieve 100% completion there is homework club available with:
- Dr V. Onyenkeadi (Wednesday 12:30pm – 1pm, MD2.04)
- Mr C. Cristaldi (Tuesday 3:14pm – 4:15 pm, MD1.07)
- Mr L. North (Tuesday 3:14pm – 4:15 pm, MD2.03)
Students were given Sparx homework books and are expected to complete homework in the homework book showing all their working out.
If homework is not completed at 100%, an S1 sanction will be issued.
We greatly appreciate your support in encouraging your child to dedicate time each week to Sparx. By doing so, you help them strengthen their mathematics skills and prepare for future learning and examinations. If you have any questions or need guidance on supporting your child, please contact their mathematics teacher or myself directly.
Yours faithfully
Mrs E. Ramic | Director of Le
