Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: Year 10 work experience: Monday 14th – Friday 18th July 2025
The vast majority of Year 10 have secured placement ahead of next week. This is an exciting opportunity allowing students to explore potential career paths, develop practical skills, and gain valuable insights into the world of work. It also helps build confidence, enhance employability, and make more informed decisions about future education and career choices and we look forward to hearing all about it upon their return next academic year.
What to do if your placement is no longer available?
If the work-place you have arranged has fallen through, then at this late notice it is worth considering virtual work experience. You will also need a new form completed and handed in.
Virtual work experience increasingly reflects a normal part of what students may experience in their future work-life as working from home becomes more common. All students will still complete their online booklet found on their Year 10 tutor Google classrooms. Students completing virtual work experience are also required to download and add the certificate of completion that they will receive from their course.
Providers of Virtual Work Experience
Your child has had access to many different virtual work experience websites throughout the year that they can choose from. Springpod, is a great platform your child is able to access through the website and the tutor time slides they have received each week in this module where they are able to sign up to any virtual experience they wish for next week.
On Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd July, Y10 students will remain working from home where they are expected to complete the remainder of their work experience booklet (Section C). Each student has an electronic booklet which they have had access to through their tutor classroom. Once completed, students can submit this to their tutor classroom.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Hardaker oliver.hardaker@sgla.latrust.org.uk (Work Experience Coordinator) or Ms Marshall kirsty.marshall@sgla.latrust.org.uk (Careers Lead).
Thank you for your continued support in enabling students to have a successful, meaningful week of work experience which will be valuable towards their future.
Yours faithfully
Ms Marshall | Assistant Head of College for Mandela College
