Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: SGLA Behaviour Policy : Reflection and Refocus Centre
Sir Geoffrey Leigh Academy is committed to maintaining the highest quality of education, behaviour, and safeguarding for all our students. We have a clear reward and sanction system to motivate our students to be the best they can be in all that they do. To this end, we require your support to ensure that your child adheres to the academy’s dress code, they arrive on time everytime, they strive for 100% attendance, and they respect our academy’s expectations where they work positively with their expert teachers and demonstrate positive conduct. These standards are in place to promote a positive and effective learning environment to enable your child to open their mind to achieve success.
The behaviour policy outlines our expectations which includes the rewards and sanction system. These are awarded in response to your child’s behaviour and approach to their education. Your child will gain reward points for positive behaviours, where accumulation of positive points may result in your child being offered a place on our reward trips, college reward events, recognition in college reward assemblies and for those with the highest reward points, gain a place on the League of Excellence Board. If your child’s behaviour falls below our expectations a sanction will be issued. It is always our priority to sanction both proportionately and appropriately with the aim that the same mistake is not repeated. You can view your child’s current behaviour points through My Child at School App.
In the event where a student’s behaviour falls below our expectations, the decision may be taken to refer your child to our onsite Reflection and Refocus Centre (R&R, formerly CSC), an offsite Reflection and Refocus Centre at another Leigh Academies Trust School, or a Fixed Term Suspension. The decision to sanction at these levels is never taken lightly, where reasonable adjustment due to context is always considered, and these are only issued in response to a significant breach of our behaviour policy’s code of conduct.
In the event that your child is referred to an onsite or an offsite Reflection and Refocus Centre (R&R), you will be contacted by the academy and confirmation sent via email. Failure to engage with either sanction may result in a Fixed Term Suspension.
Yours sincerely
Mr Barry Stephenson | Deputy Principal
